- Total market fee is 15%: 5% Steam + 10% CS2 game fee. Each fee has a minimum of CA$0.01.
- Buyer pays price P; seller receives about P ÷ 1.15.
- Steam wallet funds are not cash. Selling for wallet credit is not the same as cashing out.
- The calculator works both ways: from buyer price to payout, or payout to listing price.
How to use the Steam fee calculator
Choose a direction. In "I list at" mode, enter the price the buyer will pay and the tool shows the Steam fee, the game fee and your net payout. In "I want to receive" mode, enter the amount you want to end up with and the tool gives the listing price needed. Currency is shown in CA$ so you can compare it with your skin site balance or your own purchase price.
How the fee works
Steam adds fees on top of the seller's receivable amount. The buyer pays seller amount + Steam fee + game fee, where:
- Steam fee = max(CA$0.01, 5% of seller amount, rounded)
- Game fee = max(CA$0.01, 10% of seller amount, rounded)
Buyer price ≈ seller amount × 1.15. Seller amount ≈ buyer price ÷ 1.15.
Note that the percentage applies to what you receive, not to the listing price. That is why 15% of CA$11.50 is not what comes off. The seller gets CA$10.00 and fees total CA$1.50, which is 13.04% of the listing price.
Examples in CA$
| Buyer pays | Steam fee | Game fee | You receive | Share lost |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| CA$0.03 | CA$0.01 | CA$0.01 | CA$0.01 | 66.7% |
| CA$1.15 | CA$0.05 | CA$0.10 | CA$1.00 | 13.0% |
| CA$11.50 | CA$0.50 | CA$1.00 | CA$10.00 | 13.0% |
| CA$57.50 | CA$2.50 | CA$5.00 | CA$50.00 | 13.0% |
| CA$575.00 | CA$25.00 | CA$50.00 | CA$500.00 | 13.0% |
Prices are illustrative; real listings round to the cent. The first row shows the minimum-fee effect: on tiny items nearly the whole price goes to fees.
Reverse calculation: what to list at
To net CA$40 after fees, list at about CA$46.00 (40 × 1.15). To net CA$250, list at about CA$287.50. If you are comparing a Steam sale against a site's P2P marketplace, compare net, not gross. A site that gives you 95% of market price may beat Steam's 87% effective payout, but only if the coins can be converted to CA$ at a fair rate; check with the coins to CA$ converter.
Tips to reduce fee drag
- Avoid selling low-value items individually. The minimum CA$0.01 fee hurts cheap listings.
- Use trades when possible. Direct trades have no market fee but carry scam risks; read Steam trade URL and API key and avoid scams on skin sites.
- Know trade protection. New devices and Steam Guard changes can lock items; see Steam trade protection explained.
- Account for wallet limits. Wallet funds can only be spent on Steam.
Tip: when you buy a skin on Steam and later sell it, you lose about 13% of the sale price on the round trip, so the price must rise by roughly 15% just to break even.
How it relates to gambling sites and CA$ cash-out
Skin sites typically value deposits near market prices and charge their own spreads. When you withdraw skins to sell on Steam, you pay the 15% market fee, and the result is wallet credit rather than cash. That is why many Canadians instead sell through P2P or convert coins to crypto and then to CA$ through a FINTRAC-registered exchange. Our guide on how to withdraw to CA$ compares the options, and cashing out skins to CA$ works through examples.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Steam Community Market fee for CS2?
A total of 15%: 5% Steam fee plus 10% CS2 game fee, each with a minimum of CA$0.01.
How much do I receive if a buyer pays CA$11.50?
About CA$10.00. The buyer price is the seller price plus 15%, so divide by 1.15.
Do fees apply to trades?
No. Direct Steam trades have no market fee, though trade protection and holds can apply.
Why do cheap items lose a bigger share to fees?
Each fee has a CA$0.01 minimum, so on very low prices the fixed minimum is a larger percentage than 5% or 10%.
Can I withdraw Steam wallet funds as cash?
No. Steam wallet funds stay on Steam and are not directly withdrawable as cash.
