CS2 Roulette Strategy: Odds, Martingale Maths and Bankroll Rules
  • Standard skin-site wheel: 15 slots, 7 red, 7 black, 1 green. Red or black pays 2x; green pays 14x.
  • House edge is 1/15, or about 6.67%, on every bet type. Betting patterns do not change it.
  • Martingale wins CA$5 per cycle most of the time, but a 6-loss streak happens about 2.3% of cycles and wipes out a CA$500 bankroll.
  • Smart roulette play is mainly bankroll sizing, session limits and knowing when to stop.
  • Use free cases and rakeback to soften the edge, not to justify bigger stakes.

Every roulette "system" you see on social media sells the same idea: that you can outsmart a game with a fixed edge. You cannot, but you can control how much variance you take, how long your bankroll lasts and how much you give up to the house per hour. This guide explains the real maths of the 15-slot wheel used by sites such as CSGOEmpire, then covers the strategies people use and the rules that actually help.

The odds of CS2 roulette

The most common skin-site roulette uses 15 outcomes. Seven are red, seven are black and one is green (on CSGOEmpire it is the "Empire" coin). Each slot has a probability of 1/15 on a fair wheel.

BetWin probabilityPayoutExpected return per CA$1House edge
Red7/15 = 46.67%2xCA$0.93336.67%
Black7/15 = 46.67%2xCA$0.93336.67%
Green1/15 = 6.67%14xCA$0.93336.67%

Every line returns 14/15 of a dollar for every dollar staked in the long run. Betting green is therefore not "worse" or "better" than red; it only changes the shape of the result. Try the maths in our roulette simulator.

How streaks behave

Because each spin is independent, streaks are more common than most people feel. The chance that the next n spins all miss red (so they are black or green) is (8/15)n.

Consecutive non-red spinsProbabilityRoughly 1 in
315.2%7
54.3%23
71.2%81
80.66%152
100.19%535

In a 100-bet session, a run of seven or more losing red bets somewhere is roughly a 4-in-10 event. For green, the chance of 15 spins without a single green is (14/15)15 = 35.5%, and over 30 spins it is still 12.6%. "Due" does not exist.

Strategy 1: Martingale (and why it fails)

Martingale means doubling your bet after every loss until you win, then returning to the base bet. Each completed cycle nets exactly one base unit. The flaw is exponential growth. Starting with CA$5:

Loss numberNext betTotal staked after that bet
0 (first bet)CA$5CA$5
1CA$10CA$15
2CA$20CA$35
3CA$40CA$75
4CA$80CA$155
5CA$160CA$315
6CA$320CA$635
7CA$640CA$1,275

With a CA$500 bankroll you can place the first six bets (CA$315 total) but cannot cover the seventh at CA$320. The chance that you lose six red bets in a row from the start of a cycle is (8/15)6 = 2.3%. The result: 97.7% of cycles win CA$5, and 2.3% lose CA$315. Expected value per cycle is about 0.977×5 − 0.023×315, which is roughly −CA$2.4. The system turns small, frequent wins into rare, big losses, but it does not remove the edge. It also runs into site max-bet limits that can stop you doubling at all.

Strategy 2: Flat betting

Flat betting means the same stake every spin. It is the least exciting approach and the one that minimises variance for a given amount of action. The expected loss is 6.67% of the total wagered. At CA$2 per spin for 200 spins, you wager CA$400 and lose about CA$26.67 on average. A bell-shaped range of outcomes surrounds that average: sometimes you will be up, sometimes down more than expected.

Strategy 3: Green coverage

Some players bet a small amount on green alongside red or black, for example CA$4 on red and CA$1 on green. If green hits, you receive CA$14 for the CA$1, covering your CA$4 red loss and netting CA$9. This is not an edge, just a different payout curve: the expected return of every combination is still 14/15 of your total stake. It is useful if you prefer a smoother profit pattern.

Strategy 4: Stop-loss and target limits

Because the house edge applies per bet, the best defence is to make fewer bets. Set two numbers before you start:

  1. Stop-loss, for example 25% of your session bankroll.
  2. Win target, for example 30% above your start, when you cash out half.

This does not change the average, but it prevents the most common failure mode: giving back a good run, then chasing losses. See our bankroll calculator and the post on bankroll management.

What a session looks like: expected loss by volume

The expected loss depends only on how much you wager in total, not on how you arrange the bets. Use this table to set realistic expectations.

Total wageredExpected loss at 6.67%Example
CA$100CA$6.6750 spins at CA$2
CA$500CA$33.33100 spins at CA$5
CA$1,000CA$66.67200 spins at CA$5
CA$5,000CA$333.33500 spins at CA$10

Variance is large relative to these averages. The standard deviation of a single CA$5 red bet is about CA$5, so after 100 spins the typical swing is about CA$50 either way, which is bigger than the CA$33 expected loss. That is why some people walk away ahead and others do not, and why a few good sessions say nothing about the edge. Remember that wagering requirements on bonuses count the total wagered, so each CA$1,000 of play costs roughly CA$67 in expectation before any rakeback.

Bankroll sizing rules that actually help

  • Bet 1% to 2% of your session bankroll per spin. On CA$200 that is CA$2 to CA$4.
  • Separate session money from savings. Never use rent, tuition or credit card funds.
  • Cap session length. The edge bites with every spin. Thirty minutes is a reasonable limit for many people.
  • Do not top up after a loss to "win it back".
  • Cash out wins regularly so a bad run cannot erase everything.

Using rakeback, free cases and bonuses

Rakeback returns a share of wagering as value. If a site returns, say, 5% of the house edge you generate, your effective edge drops, but only slightly. Free cases and deposit bonuses add value but usually carry wagering requirements; test them with the wagering calculator and rakeback calculator. Myths to ignore

  • "Look for patterns." Verified provably fair outcomes are independent; see Provably Fair Explained.
  • "Bet against long streaks." A 7-red run does not make black more likely next spin.
  • "Paid signals work." Nobody can predict a hashed result.
  • "Bots guarantee profit." Automation just places bets faster, increasing your losses.

Roulette versus other games

Roulette's 6.67% edge is higher than crash at 1%, so on pure maths, crash returns more per dollar wagered. Roulette offers simple outcomes and social rooms, though. We compare the two in crash vs roulette and cover tactics in our crash strategy guide.

Play responsibly. Roulette is a negative expected value game. Set deposit limits, never chase losses and take breaks. In Canada you must be 19+ (18+ in Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec). If gambling is causing harm, call ConnexOntario at 1-866-531-2600 or your provincial helpline, and see our responsible gambling page.

Frequently asked questions

What are the odds in CS2 roulette?

A typical wheel has 15 slots: 7 red, 7 black and 1 green. Red or black wins 46.67% of the time and pays 2x, while green wins 6.67% and pays 14x.

What is the house edge in 15-slot roulette?

It is 1/15, about 6.67%, on every bet. On a 2x bet you win 7 out of 15 times, so the expected return is 14/15 of your stake.

Does the Martingale strategy work on skin roulette?

It wins small amounts often but exposes you to rare, large losses and table or balance limits. It does not change the 6.67% house edge.

Is betting on green a good idea?

Green pays 14x with probability 1/15, so its expected return is the same 14/15 as red or black. It is simply higher variance.

How much of my bankroll should I bet per spin?

A common guideline is 1% to 2% of your session bankroll, which keeps variance survivable. No sizing method removes the house edge.
