- CS2 has two M4 rifles, the M4A4 and the M4A1-S, and each has its own skin pool.
- Budget skins start around CA$5 to CA$30 (approx.); Howl and top-tier pieces cost thousands.
- Wear, StatTrak and low float change pricing, especially on high-demand finishes.
- All prices are approximate and change daily.
CT-side riflers use the M4A4 and M4A1-S every round, which makes M4 skins perennial favourites. This overview from our team covers both weapons, notable finishes, approximate prices in Canadian dollars and how these skins perform as value on skin gambling sites. If you are still deciding on a rifle, compare with our AK-47 skins page.
M4A4 vs M4A1-S: how skins differ
The M4A4 has a larger magazine and a different model with a visible long barrel. The M4A1-S is the silenced variant with a lower magazine size and a more compact look. They share neither skins nor prices; a finish with the same name can look and cost different on each weapon. When pricing, always note which rifle you are looking at.

StatTrak, Souvenir and special versions
StatTrak versions of M4 skins usually cost more because of the kill counter, though the premium varies by skin. Souvenir versions exist only for skins that appear in Souvenir Packages from Majors; see souvenir packages explained. Howl is contraband, which means it is not found in new case drops, adding to its collector status.
Wear and float on M4 skins
Look at the float number as well as the wear name. A 0.07 and a 0.15 float are both nominally in different tiers, but the 0.07 is the very edge of Factory New or Minimal Wear. Because float and price are closely connected on high-demand skins, learn to read the number. Our float and wear guide and the float calculator are useful. Skins with limited float ranges show little difference between copies, while skins like Asiimov show more.
Which M4 skin for which budget
Under CA$30
Magnesium, Nitro, Briefing, Evil Daimyo and Cyrex at higher wear. Good for first purchases and trade-ups. See cheap skins.
CA$30 to CA$200
Hyper Beast, Neo-Noir, The Emperor, Asiimov and Nightmare at good wear. This is where most buyers settle because the looks are strong and resale is easy.
CA$200 and above
Printstream, Golden Coil, Poseidon and Howl. Verify the inspect link, consider StatTrak, and compare multiple listings before you commit.
Using M4 skins on gambling sites
- Deposit value vs Steam price: sites value skins with their own pricing models. For mainstream M4 skins the credited amount is close to third-party market prices; Steam Market numbers look higher because they are paid in non-withdrawable wallet funds.
- Which sites accept them: CSGOEmpire, CSGORoll, CSGOBig, CSGOFast and Gamdom all take skin deposits via Steam trade. Item limits and blacklists vary.
- Most liquid M4 skins: Cyrex, Hyper Beast, Printstream, Asiimov and Neo-Noir sell quickly. Howl and Poseidon are slower because the buyer pool is smaller.
- Float and StatTrak: a site may not pay extra for low float or StatTrak, so sell a special copy on a P2P market first and deposit the proceeds.

Liquidity tips
- Choose recognisable names; obscure finishes may take a long time to sell.
- If you need cash fast, price at or slightly below the lowest comparable listing.
- Avoid selling right before big updates; markets can swing.
- Check both wear tier and float on the inspect link before you accept an offer.
- Keep trade protection in mind, since new purchases can be locked; see our explainer.
Canada angle: CAD and fees
For Canadian accounts the Steam Community Market uses CA$, so you can buy with Steam Wallet funds loaded in CAD. A US$60 Printstream on a third-party site would be about CA$83 at roughly 1.38 CAD per USD before fees. Compare Steam's CA$ price, the third-party price after exchange, and what the gambling site would credit. The Steam fee calculator shows net proceeds if you sell on Steam, and how to withdraw to CAD shows the cash-out route. For long-term thinking see CS2 skins as an investment. This is general information, not financial advice.
M4 buying mistakes to avoid
- Mixing up the two rifles: an M4A4 listing and an M4A1-S listing of a similarly named finish can differ greatly in price. Double check the weapon.
- Paying for StatTrak on a bargain skin: the StatTrak premium on a CA$5 skin can be a high percentage but a small amount; decide whether you value the counter.
- Overlooking wear on dark finishes: skins like Nightmare and Neo-Noir hide wear better than white finishes such as Printstream, where scuffs are obvious.
- Buying only on Steam: compare third-party prices, as the cheapest source varies week to week.
Why Howl is special
The Howl is a contraband item. It was removed from the Huntsman Collection drops and can no longer be obtained from cases, so supply only shrinks as items are lost or locked away. That scarcity, plus a striking design, is why it dominates M4 pricing. For other long-term supply stories, read rarest CS2 case drops.
Quick M4 checklist before you buy or deposit
Confirm which rifle the listing refers to, the exact skin name, the wear tier and whether it is StatTrak. Open the inspect link and read the float, especially if you are paying a premium for a low number. Compare the Steam Community Market price in CA$ with a third-party marketplace converted from USD, including any deposit or withdrawal fees. Check for trade locks, since a locked rifle cannot move to a gambling site or a buyer. If you plan to deposit, compare the site's credited value with a marketplace price. For popular M4 skins the two will be close, but for premium items like Howl, Poseidon or low-float Printstream the gap can be meaningful. Keep records of purchase prices in CA$, which helps you track real performance after fees and exchange rate changes. Finally, remember that popularity cycles: a finish that is everywhere this month may be replaced by a new release next month, so avoid paying a hype premium unless you intend to enjoy the skin regardless of price.

Frequently asked questions
What is the most expensive M4 skin?
The M4A4 Howl is the best-known premium skin and is a contraband item, so it cannot be dropped from cases anymore. It typically sits in the thousands to tens of thousands of CA$, depending on wear.
M4A4 or M4A1-S, which has better skins?
Both have excellent finishes. The M4A1-S is often chosen for its silencer and tends to have more affordable popular skins, while the M4A4 hosts Howl and Poseidon. Pick based on the weapon you use.
What are cheap but good M4 skins?
Options such as M4A1-S Nitro, M4A4 Magnesium, M4A4 Evil Daimyo or M4A1-S Briefing can be found at low prices depending on wear. Check live listings.
Are M4 skins easy to deposit on gambling sites?
Yes, mainstream M4 skins such as Printstream, Hyper Beast and Cyrex are widely accepted and easy to price.
Do prices change quickly?
They can. Updates, operations and Major tournaments shift demand, so all ranges here are approximate and move daily.
