- Standard phases are 1, 2, 3 and 4; the gem phases are Ruby, Sapphire and Black Pearl.
- Phase 2 (pink and blue) and Phase 4 (blue) are generally the most sought-after standard phases.
- Gem phases trade at huge premiums over standard phases and are heavily faked in listings.
- Prices are approximate and move daily; always compare multiple listings.
A Doppler knife is not one skin; it is a family of colour variations, all sharing a name but not a price. The same Karambit can cost CA$900 or CA$30,000 depending on its phase. This guide goes phase by phase, in the style of a field catalogue, so you can recognise each one and avoid overpaying. For general knife context, see our knives hub.

| Ruby | Solid red | Extremely rare | Extreme |
Gamma Doppler is a separate finish with a green-tinted palette and its own gem phase, Emerald. Relative price is shown, not currency, because the amounts depend on knife type and float.
Phase 1: the baseline
Phase 1 has a darker base, with purple-pink streaks that look almost black from a distance. It is the entry point for Doppler collectors and typically carries one of the lowest standard premiums. If you want the Doppler look without a heavy bill, Phase 1 and Phase 3 are the logical starting points.
Phase 2: the crowd favourite
Phase 2 shows vibrant pink and light blue, a combination many buyers prefer. Because demand skews in its favour, Phase 2 often trades above Phase 1 and Phase 3. Expect a noticeable premium, but not a gem-level one.
Phase 3: the quiet one
Phase 3 is characterised by dark tones with hints of green or blue. Some buyers love the subtlety, but it is not usually priced as high as Phase 2 or 4. This can be a good-value option.
Phase 4: the blue lean
Phase 4 is predominantly blue with red accents, so it often trades near or above Phase 2. Its price can also be affected by how much blue is visible, which varies by seed.
Gem phases
Black Pearl
A near-black surface with violet highlights. It is rare, and prices sit far above the standard phases.
Sapphire
Solid blue across most of the blade. It is among the most valuable Doppler variants and is highly liquid at the top end of the market.
Ruby
Almost entirely red. Also extremely rare and expensive.
Warning on gems: fakes and misleading screenshots are common. Verify the paint seed and inspect the item on a reputable marketplace. Never trade based on a screenshot alone.
Indicative price ranges
These are broad ranges for a mid-tier knife type at Factory New, to give a sense of scale. Actual prices vary by knife (Bayonet, Flip Knife, Karambit, M9 Bayonet and others) and move daily.
| Phase | Approx. CA$ range |
|---|---|
| Phase 1 / Phase 3 | CA$400 to CA$1,500 |
| Phase 2 / Phase 4 | CA$550 to CA$2,200 |
| Black Pearl | CA$3,000 to CA$10,000+ |
| Sapphire / Ruby | CA$10,000 to six figures |

How to identify a phase
- Open the item details and look for the phase label if the marketplace shows it.
- Check the paint seed number; reputable sites map seeds to phases.
- Compare the blade view with reference images.
- Check the float with the float calculator and read float and wear.
- Ask for an inspect link if buying peer to peer.
Float, wear and stickers
Doppler knives only come in the better wear levels, and lower floats within a bracket can add a premium. However, phase generally dominates price. Stickers are not available on knives, so a Doppler's value comes purely from the finish, float and condition.
Buying tips
- Compare at least three listings.
- Be wary of deals well below market; they are usually scams. See how to avoid scams.
- Remember trade holds can delay sales; see trade protection.
- Calculate selling fees with the Steam fee calculator.
Winning knives via sites
Some players try to win knives on case opening or upgrader modes. The odds are heavily against it, and the house edge applies. If you do try, set a strict budget and practise on the skin upgrader simulator first. A Free Case on CSGOEmpire costs nothing to try.
Canadian notes
Large skin purchases and sales may have CRA implications as capital gains or business income. Keep records in CA$ and see our tax guide; consult a tax professional. This is not financial advice.
Which phase should you choose?
For most buyers, the choice comes down to look versus budget. If you want the cheapest way into the family, Phase 1 or Phase 3 gives you the Doppler gradient and is easiest to resell near its purchase price. If you care about the colours you will see in your inventory, Phase 2 and Phase 4 deliver the brighter blue and pink that people picture when they think of a Doppler. Gems are best left to experienced collectors who can verify seeds and have the capital to hold an illiquid asset.
Whatever you choose, buy the knife type you genuinely like, because the base model drives the price floor. A Phase 2 Bayonet will always cost far less than a Phase 2 Karambit, so decide on the shape first and the phase second.

Frequently asked questions
What are the Doppler phases?
Standard Doppler knives come in Phase 1, 2, 3 and 4, plus the rare gem phases Ruby, Sapphire and Black Pearl. Gamma Doppler adds Emerald.
Which Doppler phase is cheapest?
Phase 1 and Phase 3 are often the cheaper standard phases, while Phase 2 and Phase 4 usually command a premium. Prices shift with demand.
What makes a Ruby or Sapphire special?
They are extremely rare colour variants, almost solid red or blue, and trade at multiples of standard phase prices.
Does float matter for Dopplers?
Yes. Factory New and Minimal Wear examples are common and lower floats hold a premium, but phase usually matters more.
How do I check a phase?
Use the inspect link or the Steam item details, which show the paint seed and name the phase on many marketplaces.
